Food Festival Launched to Celebrate the Sino-Philippine Years of Friendly Exchange

In celebration of the 2012-2013 Philippines-China Years of Friendly Exchanges, the Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou in cooperation with Crowne Plaza Guangzhou City Centre, will hold a food festival dubbed "Flavors of the Philippines", where a selection of famous Philippine dishes will be served at the hotel's Fresh All Day Dining Restaurant (Fresh ADD Restaurant) for two weeks from August 19 to September 1, 2013. A special area in the restaurant's buffet line will feature Philippine dishes to be prepared by two Filipino chefs from the InterContinental Manila.

Two chefs from InterContinental Manila will fly to Guangzhou to prepare famous Philippine dishes which include Escabeche Fish, Ginataang Manok, Beef Steak Tagalog, and dessert Turon with Langka, Crepe Samurai and much more. Master Chef Elmer Marquez has been with the InterContinental Manila for 19 years. He has represented InterContinental Manila in various local and international competitions and has been a guest chef as well at different InterContinental hotel Food Festivals in Germany (2006), Singapore (2011) and most recently Spain (2012).

The launching ceremony of the Philippine Food Festival was held at the Crowne Plaza on August 19.

Famous Philippine brand, San Miguel beer, will be offered during the two-week food fest. Each diner may request a can of beer from the servers, free of charge.

Oishi snacks manufactured by Philippine company, Liwayway (China) Co. Ltd., will also be distributed during the food fest.

A variety of Philippine dried food and cultural products will also be displayed at the Fresh ADD Restaurant, along with a Philippine tourism materials and video.

In addition to Philippine cuisine, prestigious folk dance group "Sindaw" is to entertain guests who will dine at the Fresh ADD Restaurant during the food festival. The group has been chosen to perform in many international exchange events around the world in recent years. The dining public will certainly be amazed by the group's rendition of famous Philippine folk songs and dances.
